MISSION STATEMENT
The Sexual Assault Generational Education Evaluators (SAGE) are dedicated to promote preventive services eliminating Sexual Assault within and against the Native American community and ensuring that quality spiritual, educational, and healing nourishments are provided. This will encourage the generations to work towards healing, hope and peace within our communities
STATISTICS
Sexual victimization is part of the terrible history of oppression, violence, and maltreatment that Native Americans have experienced at the hands of the United States government and its citizens. Today, Native American women experience more sexual victimization than other U.S. racial and ethnic groups. In studies of sexual victimization among Native American women, rates have ranged from 12% to 49%. Many barriers to helpseeking still persist. On the other hand, Native Americans have many resources that are specific to their cultures and their sovereign relationships with the U.S. government
(1) 37.1%, more than 1 in 3 Indian (including Alaska Native) women are raped in their lifetimes
(2) Indian women experience3 7 sexual assaults per 1,000, compared with 4 per 1,000 among Black Americans, 3 per 1, 000 among Caucasians, 2 per 1,000 among Hispanic women, and 1 per 1,000 among Asian women:
(3) 86% of perpetrators of sexually-violent crimes against people are non-Native.
(4) Native Americans are twice as likely to experience sexual assault crimes compared to all other races.
